Narkel diye olive dal


  • 15pcs Green Spanish olives
  • 150g Chola dal – 150 gms
  • 2pcs Green Cardamom
  • 2pcs Cloves
  • 1pc Cinnamon
  • 1pc Dry red chilli
  • 1pc Bay leaves
  • 3g Jeera
  • 15g coconut grated
  • 5g Ginger garlic paste
  • 5g Ghee
  • 5g Garam masala powder
  • 2pcs Green chilli
  • 2g Turmeric powder
  • 2g Red chilli powder
  • 2g Sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 50ml Pure Olive Oil


1. Boil dal with bay leaves, cinnamon stick, turmeric and salt. Do not overcook the dal. They should be whole after having been boiled.
2. Add jeera, cloves, green cardamom, green chilli and dry red chilli. Sauté lightly and add the coconut pieces, toss lightly till the coconut pieces turns golden. Now add the ginger paste & jeera paste.
3. Sauté for some time and add water. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, Green Spanish olives and the boiled dal.
4. Let the dal thicken a bit and then add bhaja masala powder, ghee, garam masala powder and let it come to a boil.
5. Let it stand in the pan for 5-7 min. Dish it out with ghee.
6. This dish is traditionally had with fulko luchi or kochuri. Goes well with roti (chapatti) as well.
